abstract
Miniaturization of electronic products, such as video recorders, digital cameras and notebook computers, is an important trend in modern electronic engineering. The miniaturization of products will inevitably require the electronic components used in the internal electronic control circuit to be minimized as far as possible on the basis of satisfying the performance. As the most commonly used device in electronic circuits, the demand for miniaturization of inductor is more urgent. The unshielded inductor XRCD32-220K introduced by Xiangru Electronics can meet this demand with a small volume (3.5*3.0*2.1mm).

Typical application circuit
Fig. 1 is a schematic diagram of a typical application circuit of a miniaturized DC-DC switching power supply with XRCD32-220K unshielded inductor.

Its specific electrical parameters: the input voltage has a wide voltage range of 12V to 48 V, the output voltage is 12 V, and the maximum output current is 300mA.

Briefly explain the function of each component in the following circuit diagram: XFCD32-220K inductor plays the role of energy storage and free-wheeling current, and the recommended inductance value of this application circuit is 22 μ h; Capacitors designed for input voltage and output voltage are used for energy storage and filtering. What should be noted here is that the capacitor should be designed with a large capacitor and a small capacitor. The large capacitor is used to store energy and filter low-frequency noise, and the small capacitor is used to filter high-frequency noise. The recommended capacitance values of this application circuit are 10μF and 100nF. The output capacitor should be as large as possible when the PCB area of the product allows, which can reduce the output ripple voltage and reserve enough energy. FB resistor is a voltage feedback sampling resistor, which provides the corresponding reference voltage according to the output voltage, so as to dynamically control the PWM duty ratio of MOS tube inside the chip and ensure the output voltage to be stable at 12V.

As shown in the above figure, the conversion efficiency of switching power supply circuit under different input voltages and different load currents is as high as 98% when the input voltage is 13V and the load current is 200mA. Among them, the smaller the DC resistance of the selected inductor, the smaller its loss and the higher the conversion efficiency.



Unshielded inductors have the typical application characteristics of switching power supply, such as low DC resistance of 0.47Ω and low loss, and have the following characteristics:


Small size: Unshielded inductors can be designed more compact without sacrificing performance because there is no magnetic shield, which is suitable for applications with strict space requirements.



Lightweight: The lack of shielding cover makes the unshielded inductor lighter, which is a significant advantage for portable devices and applications that need to reduce weight (such as drones, mobile devices, etc.).



Simple installation: Miniaturized unshielded inductors are easier to install and lay out on the circuit board, which is helpful to simplify the production and assembly process.



Cost-effectiveness: Miniaturized design usually means less material, which helps to reduce costs and makes unshielded inductors more attractive in cost-sensitive applications.



Heat dissipation performance: Unshielded inductors will have better heat dissipation performance, which is very important for thermal management in miniaturized equipment.



Appearance and size

As shown below, it is the structural dimension diagram of XRCD32-220K unshielded inductor, and the overall dimension is only 3.5 * 3.0 * 2.1mm.. This size is smaller than that of two 1206 patch resistors (usually 3.2mm x 1.6mm x 0.5mm (length x width x height)) connected in parallel. Therefore, when selecting inductor materials in miniaturized switching power supply circuit, it can be compared with 1206 patch resistor, which will have a more intuitive concept of inductor size.

The following diagram shows the specific specifications of XRCD32-220K unshielded inductor. The inductance is 22μH, and the design can refer to typical application circuits. The maximum DC resistance is only 0.47Ω, which will greatly reduce the loss of switching power supply and improve the conversion efficiency. The rated current is 0.5A, and the recommended design derating factor is 0.7.
